Saliha Bibi a PPR community activist from the District Lasbela has received the Dawood Global Foundation Ladies Fund’s Idol Award 2018. The event was conducted on Oct 11, 2018 at Sindh Governor House Karachi. The chief guest of the event was Governor Sindh Mr. Imran Ismail while guest of Honor were Nasreen Kasuri and Tina Sani. The event was attended by Ms. Lubna Javaid from PPR unit. The story of Saleha Bibi truly depicts how the process of social mobilization transforms ordinary women into dignified change agents who are successful in influencing the traditional and rigid cultures like of rural Balochistan. Despite not been to school, Saliha Bibi is an inspiration in transforming lives of women in Lasbela. Being an example of defying rigid stereotypes, Saliha has been successful in persuading local authorities for providing CNICs, marriage and local certificates to communities and convincing men to send their daughters to schools. Recognizing her ardent efforts, she has been elected as Vice President of Local Support Organization of UC Sakran that works for community development. She convinced the community of her village as well as of other villages of the UC to obtain civic documents to avail civic rights of men, women and children so that they can get the associated previleges. Saliha created linkage with development stakeholders to construct latrines. She pursued parents to enroll their children especially girls to schools. She availed every opportunity to link the local women with livelihood related trainings and other related assistance.
Ladies Fund was established in 2007 as an initiative to provide financial security to women and to promote and train women entrepreneurs. It aims to integrate the entrepreneurial needs based on the economic and social aspects of the local communities, with respect to greater women participation in the workforce. The Ladies Fund’s Idol Award recognizes an individual who has truly transformed their community and the nation and who is an inspiration to other rural women and a role model for self-reliance.
